OUR STORY
C4 Studios was founded in 2020 by multi-hyphenate independent filmmaker K.C. Conway. What started as a personal project to finish his own short film quickly revealed a bigger need: affordable, high-quality post-production services for indie and microbudget filmmakers in Los Angeles.
In just five years, C4 Studios has grown from one man mixing sound on a laptop into a thriving collective of talented artists. Together, we’ve brought to life an incredible range of projects -- from shorts and features to documentaries and series.
Our films have screened and won awards at world-renowned festivals including Sundance, Berlinale, Tribeca, Toronto, Palm Springs, and SXSW. Many have gone on to secure international distribution on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Tubi, as well as major broadcast networks like ABC, Discovery, and BET.
OUR FOUNDER
K.C. Conway is an award winning writer, director, editor and sound designer who has been telling stories since he was five years old. Inspired by seeing Star Wars as a child, K.C. embarked on a life-long journey to become a filmmaker.
He has written and directed over a dozen short films and directed his first short feature in college, where it was lauded by famous sound designer Randy Thom (Cast Away, Apocalypse Now) as "an outstanding micro-budget achievement in sound."
K.C. has worked tirelessly in the film industry for the last decade, first as an editing mentee of Academy Award® winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan, then as a freelance production assistant, sound editor/designer, and colorist for companies including Universal Studios, Discovery, and Warner Brothers, as well as countless indie productions.
In addition to filmmaking, K.C. is also a poet and novelist, and his interests range from science to politics to philosophy. He believes every great artist should draw inspiration from a multitude of sources and be endlessly curious about the world.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is simple: to empower working class and disadvantaged filmmakers to bring their stories to life.
As the child of working-class parents, our founder K.C. Conway knows all too well how difficult it can be to succeed as an artist when you're worried about how to pay the bills. That's why C4 Studios was started with the goal of becoming a non-profit dedicated to serving the needs of underrepresented and disadvantaged filmmakers.
With industry-disrupting technologies like AI emerging and artists under increasing economic pressure, we believe community and sustainability are the best way to build a better film industry. We care less about profit and more about changing the world.
Our goal is to create a collective of artists working as a self-sustaining community across the globe. Together, we can help educate and inspire the next generation of creators and craft a more sustainable, equitable way of making cinema in the 21st century.
OUR NAME
While the name might sound like the eponymous energy drink or high explosive, C4 Studios actually gets its moniker from the abbreviation: "Community 4."
"The studio was founded in a little fourplex building in Sherman Oaks during the pandemic," says our founder K.C. "My neighbors and I bonded during that time and the beautiful feeling of community I experienced while the world felt like it was crumbling around us inspired me to create another, bigger community."
"Having such a wonderful, supportive group of people during such trying times reminded me that we are stronger together than we are apart. And that people, and artists, thrive collectively and collaboratively, rather than competitively."
